Occupy that Space!

“She’s bossy”
“She is strict and mean”
“I don’t want to be friends with her because she might not find me perfect”
“I hate her guts”
“Lol, I feel suffocated when she’s around” …
These are the common phrases that strong and determined women are labelled. Instead of showers of praises for our abilities, we are often tagged as like that meanest character in a TV show that possess both selfish and harsh attitude. Our capabilities are shrunk down and crumpled by stereotypes. Nevertheless, every woman deserves to take up space and be victorious in it.
We are living in a society that is full of pre – determined characters and whenever one goes out and make their own identity, they are often humiliated about it. Taking away their control in their lives and mold them according to the standards of others. Women are perceived to only excel in household chores, babysitting, and being submissive to their partners. As a matter of fact, few centuries ago, women don’t have the same rights or privileges as men. These privileges are right for suffrage, education, and health care for example.
During the 18th – 19th century, women all around the globe started to be recognized for their abilities and clamor for participation in the activities in the society especially in politics and education. They took a stand and made a movement to benefit every woman in the present and upcoming generations so that we won’t suffer the same struggles and confinement they have in the past. They paved way for great opportunities to come to every woman in the world.
Sadly, even though these changes have already happened, many women are still shamed for coming off too strong for others to handle or by being equals of men. Oftentimes, they are told to shut up, tone down themselves, show humility, try not to reason out, or even told to stop noticing details. Instead of treating them as assets, they are seen as hurdles to achieve unity and success of the plans and its execution.
Yet, in order to truly achieve a genuine equality between individuals in the society, women should continually take space for it is not a sin but it’s our right to be exercised. We should continue being a woman to lead – a vocal, meticulous, and reasonable individual. With this, instead of putting off our fire of passion after being told to, as a woman we should not stop and be held captive again by the slavery of standards. You matter as well as your opinions and judgments. Lastly, no one have bigger rights over you. Thus, continue to take up space as much as you can and never feel sorry about it.
