When "Now" Seems Unimportant
When “Now” Seems Unimportant

Let's talk about seasons.
If there's one thing I have to constantly remind myself with, it's this:
The season I am in right now is as important as my next.
You see, as someone with much too many dreams (become a lawyer, write a book, land a community-oriented job, muster enough courage to climb a tree, end poverty in all its forms-- ok I think I made my point), it's so tempting sometimes to get absorbed by this bubble of self-made future where I finally get a hold of all these. And worse, to come there not as a seldom visitor but as an i-will-stay-here-forever kind of resident.
But, the season I am in right now is as important as my next.
Don't get me wrong, it's okay to have dreams. It's okay to look forward to a season of reaping, where every tear and hard work of today finally pays off. Oh how sweet that day will be!
But if along the way of dreaming and hoping and looking ahead with eyes that can conquer the world, I forget to look at my 'now' and cherish every single second that passes by, every person I cross paths with, and every single block of the road I step on, I may be missing out on so many things that could've made the journey sweeter and more worthwhile. I may be missing out on important lessons that could’ve sprinkled my journey with wisdom which I eventually could’ve shared with others, too.
The season I am in right now is as important as my next.
The season of reaping will be beautiful, I know. But I hope, I hope I never forget that even my ‘now’ is being used by God to mold me to become the person He wants me to be. And this is where I get to see and experience His faithfulness, love, and abundant grace. And isn't that enough to delight in my 'now'?
Honestly, the thought of getting nowhere near my dreams and unwrapping the ugly realities of this world one season at a time sometimes scares me. But this is my confidence: God is faithful in every season. And the God who carried me through the past season, will be the same God who'll see me in through my ‘now’ and through whatever comes next. So why should I fear?
Stay grounded, stay focused.
This season is as important as your next.
