Boys' Love: Not An Ordinary Romantic Story

Boys' Love: Not An Ordinary Romantic Story

By: JM Cabato

With the overwhelming popularity of Boys' Love (BL) series in the country. Many are astonished at how these series made an impact on their lives and helps them realize how difficult it is for someone from LGBTQ+ Community to be accepted (at least one of the many).

As a longtime BL series fan, I've witnessed how this genre grows and becomes a platform for people to tell someone's story that they couldn't share themselves. It serves not only for entertainment but an eye-opener for everyone to see the characters situation that teaches one to embrace "Boys' love" culture with love, openness, and respect.

At this stage, there is no doubt as to why BL stories are successful. Aside from the "kilig" factor that it gives, one can't deny the fact that in every story there are #relate moments and a bunch of moral lessons too.

Allow me to share some of the things that BL series have taught me that change my perspective about life:

Love has no restrictions.

We have lived in a world where love is only for man and woman - of the same age, background and sometimes race or color. But, as boys' love emerged and slowly acknowledged, I realized that love is not restricted to what we believe it is only for. Why? Because you never know who are the people that will come into your life and who among them you'll fall in love with.

BL series is one of the many stories that makes someone realize that love shouldn't have any restrictions. One can love anybody and be happy regardless of the gender, race, color and background.

Every day is a chance to love.

As we get hurt, we sometimes lose our hope, to love again. We feel that it'll be difficult to open ourselves to someone; to develop a connection and we think that we might be hurt AGAIN. However, BL series has taught me that every day is a chance to start over; can be difficult but is fulfilling.

Don't take someone for granted.

BL stories taught me to appreciate someone before it's too late. Life is short and unpredictable and, as such, we don't know when the person we love will disappear. As there still time, let's make them feel they're special; that they're being loved and they're appreciated.

Family first.

As we meet numerous people in our lifetime, it is difficult to not engage and create a special connection. But we must not forget, that not all of them stays. This is why we shouldn't be letting our family out of the picture.

Our family is the only one who's willing to stay with us until the end.

They are the ones who understand us the most and can accept us no matter what. With these, we should always prioritize them before anything.

Be proud of who you are.

Coming out is one of the hardest parts of being a member of the LGBT community. It takes too much courage for you to stand by your beliefs and be proud of who you are. Believe me, I've been there and I know how it feels to be discriminated. It is never easy, but don't mind them; you know yourself better and that being who you are is what will complete as a person. Be proud of it! It's never wrong to choose to be yourself and there's nothing to be ashamed of.

Boys' love is not an ordinary story, indeed. BL is more than that. And they show it by portraying a story that gives a broad perspective about life, love, friendship, and family.

Are you a BL enthusiast? If yes, let me ask you a question. What is that lesson that changed your perspective about  life?
